El Presidente has an extended family (Dynasty) that can be appointed to leadership positions. They earn skills and experiences in their new positions.
El Presidente can research and renovate, discovering new buildings, technologies, upgrades, and resources.
A new trade system with its own trade fleet. The trade fleet can be used to import/export resources and establish trade routes to neighboring islands and important nations.
Explore your own island with a fog of war system. Send your prospectors to search for new mineral and ore deposits. There is a chance of meeting hostile animals and native tribes.
New artwork, over 100 unique buildings that belong to the different individual eras.
Cooperative and competitive multiplayer. Up to four players can build their own cities on an island. The player can share resources and citizens, or go to war.
Career-based gender requirements from previous games have been removed. Men and women are free to pursue any occupation in Tropico, regardless of their gender. The only exception is that workers in religious buildings work either as Priests (male), or as Nuns (female).
