Subversive activies are random events that occur in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4 when the island is being threaten. Along with attacking the island directly, agents and spies working for the rebels, the CIA, or the KGB can disrupt the island indirectly by causing or inciting these activities.

Secret police forces can help prevent subversive activities from happening and will provide more options for dealing with them when they do. The chances of resolving subversive activities this way depends on several factors, including the skill of the secret agents involved and edicts such as Wiretapping.

Assassination Attempt

Bomb Threat

Hostage Crisis

Hostage crisis will not aply to tropicans, this will only aply to tourists, where the rebels demand a large sum of money in exchange of the tourists. This subversive activity will quit some tourism. The options are:

  • Option 1: Pay the rebels, lose respect with the nationalists.
  • Option 2: order the army to free the tourists, sucess depends completely on the experience of the soldiers and generals, if you free the tourists, you will recieve some respect from the militarists and vice versa.
  • Option 3: " we don't negociate with terrorists ! ", a large sum of tourism will be lost, but you will gain some respect with the nationalists.
  • Option 4: try to cover the event, the sucess depends completely on the experience of secret agents, this won't free the tourists, won't have any relation with factions, and no money will be paid to the rebels. No tourism rate will be lost.

Media Occupation

Worker Strike

All members of a certain job (such as dockworkers, miners, etc.) stop working to protest their working conditions.

  • Option 1: Appease the workers by paying $300 to each one.
  • Option 2: Send the army to break up the strike, causesing a few workers to be killed.
  • Option 3: Wait out the strike, stopping any work or production by the striking occupation for 6 to 12 months.
