For buildings of the same name in other Tropico games, see Shanty.
When built, they have junk décor items; like Propane tanks, boxes and tires(roof). They may accumulate trash and/or trash-can(rear door) depending on the occupancy, foot traffic, surrounding buildings and anti-litter ordinance edict. There is a hint of Crime around them; which a passing policeman's car or if near the Palace(with soldiers), keeps to a negligible level.
- "Run-down building that screams 'poverty'. Keep these eyesores far away from pretentious tourists and upper class citizens."
- "A cheap structure that offers minor improvement over shacks. Shanties require no upkeep, but provide no rent."
Upon the start of a mission, any of these pre-placed buildings can be helpful. But, as time goes by the player may want to demolish them; to be replaced by better housing. These buildings are space wasting in the extreme.
