For buildings of the same name in other Tropico games, see Power Plant.
Power plants are buildings in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4. They produce electrical power by burning fossil fuels, which unfortunately causes a lot of pollution. Every unskilled engineer working in the plant will produce 15 megawatts of power, so a plant full of brand new workers will produce 120 megawatts in total. As the engineers gain skill, this total will increase to a maximum of 250 megawatts.
With Special Development Aid from the US, the construction costs for a Power Plant can be halved. Being an extremely expensive building, the use of that Edict for this Power Plant alone makes it worthwhile - resulting in $6500 in savings (factoring in the cost of the edict and the savings incurred).
- Coal: By default, the power plant burns coal, which is cheap but causes heavy pollution.
- Natural Gas: The power plant uses natural gas instead, which is more expensive but burns cleaner then coal. This raises the upkeep to $112 a month, but halves the level of pollution caused by the plant.
