Oil Spill

An Oil Spill is a disaster that can occur in Tropico 4 and Tropico 5. Oil from crashed tankers will greatly decrease the island's environmental rating and will prevent fishing in water near the spill. Over time, oil spills will be cleaned up automatically. The cleaning process will go faster if $100 or $300 is paid per month. For a large sum of money, the spill can be cleaned up instantly.

Removal Options (Tropico 5)[]

  • Vacuum Tanker- A vacuum tanker can be purchased to get the oil out of the water. This is the cheapest way of removal, but takes the longest time.
  • Helicopter- A helicopter can be purchased to cover up the oil. This is a neutral option in time and money, but doesn't stick around for the whole disaster- they leave as soon as they run out.
  • Chemical Treatment- Helicopters with chemicals can be purchased to treat the oil. This is the fastest way to get rid of oil and end the disaster, but cost way more then the tanker and an ordinary helicopter combined.

Like any disaster, oil spills can be disabled by running a sandbox game with no random events.
