Fire

Fires are disasters that occur in Tropico 4, Tropico 5 and Tropico 6. A fire can appear on a building, either spontaneously or from a lava ball erupting from an active volcano. A fire also have a greater chance to appear during drought or heat wave.

When a fire happens in a building, firemen will begin heading to put out the blaze and the info panel of said building will be replaced by a progress bar. If they don't manage to stop the fire in time, the building will collapse, potentially along with the loss of lives of those unfortunate enough to be inside the building at the time.

In Tropico 5 there is no standalone Fire Station. but any Police Stations can be upgraded with the firefighting capability, after which fire trucks will automatically rush out when a fire breaks out. Fires can also be put out instantly by paying a sum of money to have a helicopter douse them.

In Tropico 6 Fire Stations are back and operates the same way as in previous games. However, the option to pay money to instantly extinguish the fire is gone. Instead, a new expensive upgrade will allow firefighters to automatically pilot a helicopter directly to the scene and extinguish the fire at a faster rate if the building in question is not connected to roads or taking too long to reach by roads (or by foot). There is also the fourth work mode for the fire stations called emergency fire drill that prevents the losses of lives when any building in its vicinity catches fire.

Like any disaster, fires can be disabled by running a sandbox game with no random events.
