Tropico 5 introduces the concept of the El Presidente's personal Dynasty. Up to 7 family members can be added to the dynasty, each with their own history, trait, and level. Swiss Bank Account funds are used to level up dynasty members' traits.

Facts[]

Dinasty Tag

Dynasty members that don't rule Tropico are tagged with this symbol.

  • Dinasty Presidente2

The cap icon of the dynasty member currently holding the presidency.

Any dynasty member can be a candidate for president in elections and become president.
    • The currently elected Presidente's global bonus is doubled; however, they cannot be hired as a manager for the duration of their term.
  • Dynasty members can change their clothes and appearance at any time.
  • Dynasty members can level up at any time, but the cost significantly increases each time during the same scenario.
  • New Dynasty members are gained by playing the game - it's possible to get them from certain quests, usually a new born heir or an heir contest.
    • Changes to dynasty members (i.e. new members, dismissing members, level ups) will only be saved after game completion (winning or losing a game, not leaving a game).
    • It is possible to permanently lose a dynasty member in certain tasks! For example, they can join the rebels if sent to negotiate and the task fails. Many tasks can be failed with dynasty members (the chance to fail tasks increases with lower level members). This is also applicable in multiplayer games.

Appearence[]

All dynasty members are fully customizable, with differences between male and female members. They can be dressed in either modern or vintage clothing, like Napoleon Bonaparte in an early 19th century French military uniform or an executive wearing a suit. Some clothing can be in steampunk style and colours can be either sober (grey or light blue) or more vivid like magenta and pink.

The avatars of the dynasty members walk around the map and have voice work when clicked, but cannot be controlled by the player like in other Tropico games.

Verdict[]

The Dynasty system wasn't a success with the players and was abandoned in Tropico 6, back tracking to the avatar system in Tropico 3 and Tropico 4.[1][2] According to developers, players didn't understand how to use the system and it robbed them of the relation with El Presidente; the sole glorious leader of Tropico. Instead of maintaining a ruling family, the player customizes El Presidente himself, picking a trait and using the Swiss bank funds in order to bribe factions and to unlock blueprints and export routes.[3][4]
